What is Colligative Properties ?
Colligative properties are the property of dilute solution which depends upon the number of solute particles and not on the nature of solute particles.
Colligative properties are directly proportional to number of solute prticles, number of molecules in the solution of non electrolyte, number of ions in the solution of electrolyte, number of moles of solute and mole fraction of solute.
When a solute undergoes association or dissociation in the solution, the number of solute particles changed. Therefore, the abnormal value of colligative properties are obtained.
Colligative properties are of four types. They are-
1. Relative lowering in the vapor pressure
2. Elevation in the boiling point
3. Depression in the freezing point and osmotic pressure
4. Osmotic pressure.
